About

Mains of Glinn October 2012

I live in Scotland on the edge of the Trossachs National Park, Stirlingshire, a vast area of outstanding natural beauty where I can often find inspiration for my landscape photography close to home.

I’m always searching for locations and images that I believe to be original and convey a unique atmosphere and sense of place. The elements can often play an important part in this and I find myself increasingly drawn to inclement situations. I spent a lot of time researching and recceing possible locations and future projects which I hope to share here soon.

I’m not wedded to film but find that it does give me the most satisfaction. The traditional route of shooting, processing my own film and printing never fails to excite me, where often digital leaves me underwhelmed and wanting, but each has its place.

Over the years I’ve built up a variety of film and digital camera kits – some more successful than others. Today I mainly rely on my trusty Hasselblad 503cx, and an Ebony 4×5 with Schneider lenses. I shoot digital with the Sony A7r II and a Canon plus a selection of prime lenses.

My darkroom is now up and running, complete with two quality De Vere enlargers, and I have begun the process of printing again, excited at the prospect of practising alternative printing techniques and producing prints for my forthcoming exhibitions.

The end result of all the hard work is surely what matters the most, so having the control to produce bespoke high quality silver gelatin prints is the natural next step for me. I look forward to sharing my work with you over the coming months.
